The Solar option changes the desktop image according to the sun’s position in the sky. Time mode switches images at times selected by the user, allowing a wallpaper to follow a fixed daily schedule. Appearance mode uses two images—one for light mode and one for dark mode—to match the system theme. These choices correspond to macOS Dynamic Desktop and Light and Dark Desktop wallpaper types introduced with macOS Mojave.

Equinox handles the calculations in one place and lets users create as many wallpapers locally as they wish. A finished wallpaper can be set immediately, making it practical for trying different image sets or preparing a personalized desktop for different routines.

Version 7.0 runs on macOS 12 Monterey or later and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Equinox is freeware and open-source software.
