hollywood1.21

hollywood fills a Linux console with melodramatic technobabble intended to make a computer look busy and cinematic. It divides the terminal into multiple panes, each presenting simulated technical activity for a convincing control-room effect. The resulting display is designed for several consoles running in the background of a deliberately over-the-top technothriller scene.

Invoke it when a film, presentation, live demonstration, or themed workstation needs visual computer activity without producing real operational output. The program keeps running indefinitely until the user stops it with Ctrl-C, allowing it to remain on screen as long as the scene requires. It is designed to run as a regular, non-root user and avoids consuming all available CPU, disk, or memory resources. It also does not write data while producing the display.

Created by Dustin Kirkland, hollywood is open-source software for Linux, and its current version is 1.21. Linux with snapd is required, and the supported architecture is x86_64, also known as amd64. Its appeal lies in turning an ordinary console into a theatrical prop rather than trying to perform genuine monitoring, analysis, or administration.
