Kodi packaged as an IoT GUI

Kodi packaged as an IoT GUI presents Kodi as a graphical interface on a Linux device, adapting its familiar media-center experience to embedded deployments. It is aimed at systems that need a visual front end for an IoT product rather than a conventional desktop application.

The package is designed for Ubuntu Frame running on Ubuntu Core, while remaining usable with other Wayland environments because it operates only with Wayland compositors. For example, developers can run it under GNOME with Wayland through the mir-kiosk-kodi command, although that desktop scenario is outside its primary deployment purpose.

Developers and system builders can use it when creating embedded systems, including devices whose underlying operating system differs from Ubuntu Core. On Ubuntu Core, mir-kiosk-kodi starts automatically as a daemon with the system; on another operating system, enabling that service may require snap set mir-kiosk-kodi daemon=true.

The package requires Linux and snapd, and supports amd64, arm64, and armhf architectures. The current version is 2:19.4+dfsg1, it is freeware, and Alan Griffiths is the publisher. Its distribution links directly to Kodi’s official release, keeping the IoT-oriented graphical packaging aligned with the upstream software.
