About
Record, play, open, and edit audio files in WAV, Ogg/Opus, Ogg/Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, ASCII-coded audio, and other supported formats with KDE’s kwave. It provides a practical workspace for shaping recordings, preparing sound clips, and inspecting audio without limiting work to a single file type. As open-source Music & Audio software for Linux, it is suited to musicians, audio editors, researchers, and anyone handling recorded sound.
Volume tools include fade-in, fade-out, custom amplitude curves, constant-factor scaling, and normalization. Frequency processing offers low-pass, band-pass, and notch filters, along with pitch shifting. You can also add noise or silence, convert the sample rate, jump directly to a position, reverse audio, and insert sound from the clipboard. Its Sonagram view presents audio as a spectrogram for examining frequency content over time.
Kwave can save the audio blocks between labels as separate files, which helps divide longer recordings into named sections. Beyond its native formats, it can work with formats supported by libaudiofile, although some of those formats are available for import only. Version 26.04.3 requires Linux with snapd and runs on x86_64 (amd64) systems; it is published by KDE under an open-source license.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
