About

ncspot lets users search Spotify and play tracks or playlists from a keyboard-driven terminal interface. It is a cross-platform ncurses Spotify client written in Rust, with librespot providing access to Spotify playback. Published by Alan Pope, it suits people who prefer terminal workflows, a resource-friendly music application, or an alternative to the full official client on platforms where that client is unavailable.

Separate views organize the queue, search, and library, while detail, album, artist, and context-menu views offer more ways to inspect or act on a selection. Users can add tracks to the queue, remove them, clear the queue, and save the current queue as a playlist. The library covers tracks, artists, albums, and playlists, and includes controls for refreshing its local cache and managing selected items.

Playback commands include play, stop, previous, next, seeking, volume adjustment, repeat, and shuffle. ncspot can copy a shareable URL for the playing track or a selected item to the system clipboard, and keyboard bindings—including function keys for changing views—control navigation; an in-app help screen explains them. A Vim-style command prompt supports commands for quitting, playback control, track navigation, and queue management.

ncspot 1.4.0 runs on Linux with snapd and targets x86_64 (amd64) systems. It is open-source software in the Video & Media Players category, focused on organizing and playing Spotify music from a terminal rather than providing a general desktop environment.

Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
