About

PianoCheetah turns a MIDI file into a practice-ready song for piano and drums, letting you play along as the backing music follows your tempo. Its pianoroll display presents the notes in a visually focused format, so you can see what to play while the song progresses. Any MIDI file can become a song in the program, extending practice beyond a fixed collection of included material.

The piano arrangement reduces the original notes to no more than one note for each hand at a time. It also keeps both hands in one position, making the parts easier to learn and helping the melody settle into muscle memory. Background tracks remain synchronized with your playing speed, allowing you to rehearse slowly and still hear the accompaniment in step with you.

The software suits pianists and drummers working on pop songs, whether they are learning a piece, building familiarity with its notes, or practicing along with a rhythmic backing. PianoCheetah runs on Linux, belongs to the Video & Media Players category, and is open-source.

Requires Linux + Flatpak · Architecture: x86_64, aarch64
