Speaker keeps a nearly inaudible background sound playing through selected Bluetooth speakers, preventing them from entering complete silence. This addresses a common playback glitch in which a speaker drops the beginning of the next sound after a quiet interval, an issue especially noticeable with intermittent speech such as audiobook narration.

In its settings, you choose the Bluetooth devices that should trigger the background sound, which then starts automatically when a connection is made. The upper toolbar also provides temporary play and pause controls, allowing the sound to be overridden without changing the saved device selection. The approach is useful for audiobook listeners, podcast audiences, and anyone using a Bluetooth speaker for speech or other audio with pauses between phrases.

Speaker is open-source software for Android in the Video & Media Players category, and current version 1.5 fixes settings that failed on Android 11 and earlier because a permission introduced in Android 12 was handled incorrectly. It supports Android 4.3 and newer and is built for universal architecture.
