Unoffical Sonos Controller for Linux0.3.0-alpha4

Control a Sonos system from a Linux desktop with Unoffical Sonos Controller for Linux, sending commands from the computer to connected Sonos audio equipment. It is aimed at Linux listeners who want a desktop control point for their home setup rather than a general-purpose music player. Pascal Opitz developed it to address the lack of a suitable Ubuntu controller for Sonos systems.

The application is built with Electron after evolving from an earlier Chrome app, and its interface uses React and Redux with mostly ES6 code. Its intended feature set includes browsing a Sonos library, browsing Spotify, and managing the playback queue. Its scope may not cover every function offered by the official Sonos Player.

Running it requires Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) hardware. The current release is 0.3.0-alpha4, and the project is open-source. The project is deprecated, and its maintainer says that no further work is planned.

Sonos discovery uses SSDP over IPv4 with multicast IP addresses and UDP messages, while the local file server uses outgoing TCP port 13453, which may need to be allowed through an Ubuntu firewall. If automatic discovery keeps searching, the developer menu can accept a Sonos device’s IP address manually. That menu also provides an option to save the current application state to a file when supplying details for an issue.
