Whatsie brings WhatsApp Web conversations, calls, and media into a dedicated Linux desktop window instead of a browser tab. Developed by Keshav Bhatt as open-source software, it uses Qt 6 and QtWebEngine to provide a lightweight client with desktop integration, privacy controls, and interface customization. Light, dark, and system-matching themes stay synchronized with WhatsApp Web, while native notifications can display the sender’s avatar.

Voice, video, and screen-sharing calls are supported, with Wayland calls handled through the desktop portal. A download manager keeps a history of saved files, and attachments can be added by dragging them into the conversation or pasting them. The system-tray menu includes an unread indicator, mute, and do-not-disturb controls; app locking accepts a passcode and can activate at startup, when the window is hidden, or after inactivity. Privacy blur conceals message text and media until the pointer hovers over them, and separate camera, microphone, and location permissions can be controlled for the site.

Whatsie also supports authenticated HTTP and SOCKS5 proxies, login autostart with optional minimization to the tray, zoom and interface scaling, and a keyboard-shortcuts reference. One running instance can host multiple account profiles, and its diagnostic bug-report action excludes message content. Version 6.1.1 adds German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Russian interface translations, multi-language spell checking, taskbar or dock unread badges, and rendering at the display refresh rate instead of a fixed 60 FPS; it also corrects tray-icon sizing and centering and Wayland dock grouping.
