BlockAds: Clean Internet filters advertising, tracker, and spyware-related requests system-wide through a local VPN tunnel, keeping unwanted connections from being delivered to apps. The tunnel handles DNS requests on the device instead of connecting to a remote VPN service, while filtering data remains local and personal data is not intercepted or sent to external servers.

Per-app controls let users allow or restrict internet access over Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Default, Strict, Family, and Gaming profiles provide different filtering levels for everyday browsing, children’s use, or reduced interference during games. Family settings can apply SafeSearch in Google and Bing and turn on YouTube Restricted Mode through family-safe DNS providers, while DNS-only filtering limits unnecessary advertising data and its impact on device performance.

The app reports blocked-item totals in real time, displays 24-hour activity charts, and records DNS queries for inspection. Users can subscribe to filter lists by URL, create custom allow and block rules, and set encrypted DNS through DNS-over-HTTPS or DNS-over-TLS. Its Material 3 and Jetpack Compose interface supports light and dark themes, custom accent colors, a Quick Settings tile, home-screen widgets, and JSON configuration export and import for another device.

Filtering can be enabled with the in-app power button after approving the VPN connection, or from the Quick Settings tile and a widget. Version 7.0.0 adds a DNS-log recording toggle, enables full-tunnel mode by default, fixes website hangs from QUIC/UDP timeouts, and improves HTTPS filtering with certificate, CA, and DNS hardening. This open-source Security & Privacy app requires Android 7.0 or later and the arm64-v8a architecture.
