About
BlockAds: Clean Internet is an open-source Android application in the Security & Privacy category. It filters advertising, tracker, and spyware-related requests through a local VPN tunnel on the device. The tunnel routes DNS requests locally rather than connecting to a remote VPN service, and the application keeps its filtering data on the device without intercepting or transmitting personal data to external servers.
Users can control internet access for individual applications over Wi-Fi or mobile connections. The app provides Default, Strict, Family, and Gaming profiles for different filtering needs. Family settings can apply SafeSearch in Google and Bing and enable YouTube Restricted Mode through family-safe DNS providers. DNS-only filtering can reduce unnecessary ad data downloads and limit its effect on device performance.
BlockAds shows real-time counts of blocked items, 24-hour activity charts, and DNS query logs. Users can add filter lists by URL, create allow and block rules, and configure custom encrypted DNS through DoH or DoT. Its Material 3 and Jetpack Compose interface includes light and dark themes, custom accent colors, a Quick Settings tile, and home-screen widgets. Configurations can be exported as JSON and imported on another device.
The application is intended for Android users who want system-wide DNS filtering and per-app network controls in one tool. Protection can be started by opening the app, tapping the power button, and approving the VPN connection, or activated through the Quick Settings tile or a widget. MirrorNest stores a direct mirror of the official build and scans it for malware before publishing, giving users a catalog distribution point for this Android security utility.
