About
Drop font files or folders onto FontGoggles, or onto its open window, to inspect them immediately in a visual preview. It concentrates on text shaping and variation behavior, helping users test how type behaves across different files and settings. Multiple fonts can appear simultaneously, making direct comparisons of designs and variable-font axes such as weight and optical size possible.
The viewer opens .ttf and .otf files, including variable fonts and COLR/CPAL color fonts, and uses HarfBuzz for correct shaping of complex scripts. It can preview .ufo and .designspace source files as though they were compiled fonts, while changes to those files on disk trigger automatic reloading. Vertical text layout is supported, and sample text can be resized with baseline adjustments for controlled proofing.
FontGoggles suits type designers, font engineers, and graphic designers checking interpolation, source files, multilingual text, or color-font behavior; dragging files onto its Dock icon is also a practical workflow. This macOS Photo & Graphics freeware is open-source software that runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with current version 1.9.4. Its desktop interface supports rapid side-by-side inspection of several fonts and full designspaces, including live debugging of multiple masters.
