About
Monica F-Droid stores passwords and other sensitive records in a locally encrypted vault, then fills credentials and authentication codes in Android apps and websites. Its zero-knowledge vault uses AES-256-GCM encryption derived from the master password with PBKDF2, while the Android Keystore’s trusted execution or secure element protects the encryption key. You can keep secure notes, bank cards, identity documents, billing addresses, Wi-Fi credentials, and SSH keys alongside passwords, with a password generator, zxcvbn strength analysis, breach-style security checks, a recycle bin, entry history, and snapshots.
The built-in TOTP and HOTP authenticator presents codes in a two-column grid, offers an optional Steam Guard connection to Steam servers, and can show a one-tap code popup after autofill. Android’s autofill service provides an overlay picker and inline suggestions, while a dedicated keyboard autofill method supports biometric unlocking; on Android 14 and later, Monica also acts as a passkey provider for creating and using passkeys in other apps. WebDAV synchronization and encrypted backups work with Nextcloud, Synology, and self-hosted servers, while KeePass KDBX files support reading and writing, Bitwarden accounts support import and synchronization with self-hosted Vaultwarden, and encrypted local backups can run automatically.
Plain-HTTP WebDAV is blocked by default and can be enabled per app settings, and this build removes OneDrive, Google Drive, and SMS autofill features that depend on Google Play Services. Monica F-Droid contains no Google Play Services or proprietary SDKs; its native MDBX database engine is compiled from source, and the optional Steam integration is marked NonFreeNet. Camera access is used only for QR scanning, biometrics only unlock the local vault, and the open-source Android app includes no analytics, tracking, or ads.
Version 1.0.316 adds multi-account password projects with separate OTPs and autofill, plus dual-pane database management and continuously searchable logs. It also improves vault and connection recovery, backup restoration, KeePass keyfiles, Android 12 autofill, embedded wallet fields, passkey QR scanning, credential filters, generator sizing, and editor stability, while preserving originals after key failures and retaining unreadable OTPs. It requires Android 8.0 or newer and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, and x86_64 devices.
