OpenKeychain: Easy PGP6.0.4

OpenKeychain: Easy PGP encrypts files and messages so that only intended recipients can read them, while digital signatures let recipients verify who sent the content. It uses the OpenPGP standard, allowing protected communication with compatible software on Android, Windows, Mac OS, and other systems. The app stores and manages your own keys and the keys of your contacts on an Android smartphone, and it can help locate and exchange keys online.

Its everyday use is encrypting and decrypting messages, including through integrations with K-9 Mail, Conversations, and other applications. It suits people who need private correspondence, authenticated messages, or encrypted file exchange across devices and operating systems. QR-code scanning can add another person’s key, while imported or exported keys can be handled through an SD card.

OpenKeychain is open-source, and its source code can be examined to validate how it works and why it requests its permissions; Cure53’s independent security audit found no issues considered critically severe. The current release is 6.0.4 for Android, with Universal architecture. On Android 6 and later, permissions are requested in the app when their associated features are used: identity fills in names and email addresses, contacts link keys offline, and photos, media, and files support key import and export.
