TrackerControl

TrackerControl is an open-source Android application for monitoring and controlling tracking by mobile apps. It helps users examine hidden or ongoing collection of data about their behaviour and decide whether tracking should be blocked. The software is listed in the Security & Privacy category.

To identify trackers, TrackerControl combines the Disconnect blocklist with an in-house blocklist created through analysis of approximately 2,000,000 apps. It also supports custom blocklists, allowing users to apply additional tracking rules. The app can show the companies associated with tracking and indicate purposes such as analytics or advertising.

TrackerControl analyses app network communications locally through Android’s VPN functionality and a local VPN server. It does not require root access, uses no external VPN server, and is not compatible with other VPNs or Private DNS. Its analysis also addresses DNS cloaking, a technique used to conceal trackers in websites and apps.

The app includes information intended to help users understand data protection rights, including rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Its open-source license allows the software’s source to be examined and shared under its licensing terms. MirrorNest distributes the official Android build directly from its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing it.
